You Forgot To Pay Your Credit Card Bill: Now What?
What Happens If You Don’t Pay Your Credit Card Bill?
You’ve had a really, really busy month and your head is still spinning. In fact, your schedule looks like a torture chamber for the next few weeks. You know you’re forgetting about something, but you just can’t put your finger on it. Then suddenly you realize -- you forgot to pay your credit card bill. What now?
Communication is Key
Don’t ignore it. A late payment on your credit card account will not only earn you a late fee, it may earn you a higher interest rate. Call your credit card company and explain the situation to them. Hopefully the person on the phone will be able to help you with your dilemma. If you make a payment via the phone with them at the time of the call, they may be more willing to help you avoid the penalties that go along with a late credit card payment.
If all efforts at rectifying the situation fail, you’re going to have to suck it up and pay the late fee and the higher interest rate until you’re in your credit card company’s good graces again.
