New Business Credit Cards

How hard is it to get new business credit cards?

You may think that getting new business credit cards is as easy as filling out an application and waiting for your new credit card to arrive. Think again. Getting new business credit cards can be just as hard, if not harder, than getting personal credit cards. Let me tell you why.

New Businesses Come With Risks

Every new business owner knows that new businesses always have a risk involved. The companies that issue new business credit cards realize this and usually want the person starting the business to guarantee the credit card with their own personal credit. If the person applying for the card doesn’t have good credit, the chances of getting new business credit cards are little to none.

Be Ready To Guarantee Payment

If you do have good credit and your new business is applying for new business credit cards, be ready to guarantee payment of the credit card balance. In essence, the credit card will still be in your name and will be your responsibility, but will also have the name of your business on it, so you will be establishing credit for your company. Think of it as cosigning for your company.

Interest Rates

New business credit cards may also come with a higher interest rate. Because new businesses are risky and the interest of a credit card is assessed on its risk of repayment, you might be better of charging your larger payments to a personal credit card with a lower interest rate and just charge the things you can pay of monthly to your new business credit cards.

Make Sure You Pay On Time

Companies that offer new business credit cards are jumpy enough due to the risk involved, so make sure you make every monthly payment on time. The last thing you want is the credit card company increasing your interest rate because you were a few days late paying a payment or two.

While new business credit cards may not always be easy to get, they are well worth it since they are necessary when it comes to establishing credit for your business.
