Keep Your Credit Card Number to Yourself
Your Credit Card Number Needs to be a Secret
You receive a phone call. Someone has a special offer that you just can’t refuse. All they need is your credit card number to process the order and you’ll be on your way. Do you give them the credit card number due to the exceptional deal, or do you ask them to send you something in writing? If you give them the credit card number, you may just have been the victim of credit card fraud.
The Big No No
Never, ever give your credit card number over the phone unless you initiated the call. Many con artists use tactics like the scenario above to get your credit card number and to use it for their own purposes. If you give them the credit card number, you may very well start seeing unauthorized charges on your credit card statement, which can lead to even more headaches.
If You Already Did It
If you’ve already given your credit card number to someone you suspect you shouldn’t have, keep a very close eye on your credit card statements. If you notice charges that weren’t authorized, call and report the card stolen and dispute the charges on your statement. Your credit card company will close that credit card account and will issue you a new credit card number.
