A Tale of Credit Card Debt and the Grocery Store
Too Much Credit Card Debt
It’s very easy for consumers in this day and age to get overwhelmed with credit card debt. Many consumers use their credit cards to pay for items that they would otherwise not be able to purchase or afford. The problem is when people use credit cards to pay for weekly and monthly expenses without paying them off each month.
A Sad Situation
Just the other day I witnessed two individuals who probably have too way much credit card debt. I was at the grocery store checkout counter, and the couple in front of me had to pay for their groceries with two credit cards.
They specifically asked the cashier to process a certain amount on the first card that they pulled out, and then they put the remaining amount on a second credit card.
It’s great that they were at least aware that they were close to their credit limit and could only charge a certain portion on that one credit card, but being so close to their credit limit is a sign that they have credit difficulties and also too much credit card debt.
Another red flag here is that the couple was charging their groceries. It’s okay to do that if you pay it off at the end of the month, but you should never have to pay interest on your grocery purchases.
Recognizing The Problem is the First Step
If the above scenario describes you, don’t worry. Most of us have been there at one point or another in our lives. Just recognize the fact that there is a problem and take all steps necessary to correct it.
Managing credit card debt can seem like an insurmountable task, and there is no disagreeing that it is much easier to accumulate credit card debt than it is to eliminate it.
